Will McCranie opens the album with the high-energy, funky Dave Matthews-with-attitude song “This Time.” The acoustic, bluesy-voiced “Whiskey Bottle” by Allison Foster lets loose with a moody goosebump-inducing song that really stands out on this CD, as does “Promises” by NoStar. For those craving something a little harder, there are tracks by Shotgun Opera and Suhgarim. Chairleg’s “Mecha” hits the listener over the head with some straight forward metal. Be warned, some of this stuff will knock your socks off. “Menthol Longs” by the Dew Hickies is one of the best tracks on the album, sounding a little bit like Hank III. The Mellencamp / Bon Jovi soft rock of the G-City Rockers runs well with 48 Volt’s dual male-female vocals on “Five Years.” A compilation of many talented bands, the real standout aspect of “A Very Lexie CD” is the variety on the album, and the simple fact that so many talented musicians come from within miles of one another. There’s something for everyone on this album. |
