WOW! What a crazy night we had this past friday at the first Annual Lexie’s Legacy Scholarship Fund Memorial concert! The whole day was incredible!
Started off the day by going to early mass with Mom Colohan and although it wasn’t planned, to our amazement mass was dedicated to Alexis! What a great way to start our day! We followed that off by going by to see Alexis just to let her know that we were getting ready to rock out for her!
When Mom and I pulled up for breakfast Helen Hendee called to let me know that Meshondra Collins had signed the paperwork on her end to become the first ever recipient of the Lexie’s Legacy Scholarship and to let me know that Meshondra would be in attendance later that night. But it would be her next call a few minutes later that would stun both Mom and I.
As Mom grabbed a table I headed towards the restroom when Helen called me back. She had just ran into Meshondra in financial aid at ASU and found out a couple interesting facts: Meshondra’s husband is in the Navy and her birthday is April 6th. You can do the math several ways and even can try and chalk it up to mere coincidence…no you can’t, this was meant to be. How we managed to eat our breakfast at that point is beyond me!
After an afternoon getting other tasks done, I met back up with Mom, Jeannie and my bandmates at Mellow Mushroom for an Alexis tradition, dinner at the Mushroom before an event.
I won’t get to deep into the event itself. Mom was a real trooper and hung out in the smoke and sweat almost until 2am! Despite a sold out event down the street at the Imperial Theater, over 200 people showed up for the Lexie’s Legacy concert and we have never hugged so much, or posed for photos so much. Check out photos at www.myspace.com/lexieslegacyonline for a photo of Jeannie & I with the first recipient of the scholarship who we will have to say is an absolute doll! She is a nursing student who will graduate next year but is set to have her pinning ceremony in December of this year. She herself is former Navy as well as an EMT dispatcher. Alexis would surely be pleased!
Every band was amazing! We sold a ton of t-shirts as well as some great hot mats (not sure what they’re actually called) that Mom made (she has made an Olympic amount in the past few months!). Alexis’ favorite Augusta band Jemani even debuted a new song that they wrote just for her!
At the end of the night we had raised around $1500 to add to the scholarship fund and to date this might be the largest crowd they have had at Sky City!
So this weekend we are resting…Monday we get back to work on the next event which is coming fast on September 5th…The Lexie’s Legacy Scholarship Fund Dinner & Silent Auction at The City Club.
WHEW!
